do you mean the jenova formerly in the shinra tower or the one you fight?
i believe that the one in the tower is the dead corpse of the jenova of the past while the one you fight is in fact some of the clones joined together...
eg. jenova birth is of the less important clones
jenova life is average clones
jenova death is more important
jenova absolute is most important with Sephiroth as the leader but not an actual clone and Cloud as a 'failed experment' therefore not joined with any of them... zack is dead so i dont count him...

Actually, the second pic is just a mechanical piece of equipment which is in front of the actual organism that Sephiroth rips away so that he can reach Jenova.

In the beginning 2000 years before the event of FFVII, Jenova made the Certa believe it was harmless and of no danger, which infact Jenova was going around spreading a virus causing the Cetra to turn into monsters. Yes it was Professor Gast who found her and thought at the time she was an Ancient, which they found out she wasnt.

I think its whats left of the original. The head of Lucrecia wouldnt be nearlly as important as the head of the original Jenova.
They didnt create cloud, he was born normally like the rest. He was detained in the Shin-Ra mansion and exposed to Jenova cells and mako after the Nibelhiem inncident... remember?
They didnt seal her in the reactor. Gast found her remains and the ShinRa sealed her in the reactor.
Sephiroth was injected with Jenova cells in the womb, Cloud was injected as an adult.
yeah hojo injected Cloud and Zack after the nilbeheim incident. Zack did not suffer from side effects as he was a soldier hence already treated with mako (pure life stream energy). cloud on the other hand was a normal shinra soldier, not injected with anything and when injected with jenova cells, suffered the side effects...

the jenova you see in neibelheim is the same jenova that's in the shinra building, just 5 years before that's all. this is also the same jenova that u hav to fight four times (as sephirtoh took jenova from the shinra building.
timeline: jenova is kept at neibelheim----->5 years later----->jenova is kept at shinra building----->not long afterwards----->sephiroth takes jenova from shinra building to go with him (to the promised land i suppose, tho his version of the promised land is a massive injury to the planet! :O)

sephirtoh's real mother is lucrecia, not jenova. however, lucrecia and sephiroth were injected with jenova cells while sephiroth was in lucrecia womb (sephiroth's father is hojo btw). I think this is why sephiroth regards jenova to be his mother, as he has inherited her DNA as well.
jenova is the "calamity from the skies" (everything about this topic is explained in the videos at icicle inn). and credit goes to russielloyd for mentioning jenova's virus turning cetra into monsters. jenova's arrival also began the construction of the weapons to counte it however, she was defeated before they were used, that's why they were never released. they were designed to fight the virus infecting the planet, and when released they thought humans were the virus and so attacked them.
cloud is a normal human like everyone else, born just like evryone else. hojo classes him as a failed experiment not because he created him but becuase of the experiments he ran on him after the neibelheim incident 5 years ago. see necro arc entry no.14 for info on why zack survived the expriments and cloud didn't.
