    Default Smog

Well, I grew up in Los Angeles county, I never really lived too far from LA and had been in the actual city of LA probably hundreds of times. I moved to Oklahoma, and then when I came back, now living closer to LA than ever (I practically am in LA) I really noticed something I NEVER noticed before...smog. Lots of it. Now, this isn't news to me, I just never realized there was so much of it that you could see it with the naked eye...but I've pretty much grown used to it again I guess...or I thought I did anyway. I remember when I came back up to my room at midnight last night, the sky was crystal clear and you could see like all the lights of LA...it was beautiful.

But then...to my utter horror and disbelief, I woke up this morning and the sky looked like this (all taken from right outside my residence hall):

Now, I've been to Chicago, Illinois which is bigger and is like, the largest transit district in the world, and it's NOTHING like this...so why is LA like this? I really don't understand and it's really quite sad because on the few days that it ends up being clear, like last night, it's really, really beautiful.

So yeah is there smog where you live and how do you feel about it?

Eh, that's not bad. It's worse here than in LA. I hear Riverside county and... another California county, I forget which one, are the worst places in the world for smog. My teacher said breathing the air here is about he equivilant of smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, though I don't know how true that is.

I feel... sad, I guess. I'd rather live where the air is clean. I mean, there are a lot of days where I can't see the mountains around me. I live in a freaking valley, but I can't see the mountains surrounding me. Totally disturbing.

There's probably smog in Dallas, but I rarely ever go there (maybe twice a year?), and Fort Worth is pretty clear of the stuff. You might see a tad bit downtown, but it's extremely minor. Obviously it's bad for your health, and I don't know of anyone who would ever LIKE it. It's becoming more and more of a problem, it appears. I've never been around it, so I really don't know what it's like. Someone more qualified will give a better opinion of it than me.

I live in Hawaii, now, but when I go back home to good old Murrieta, CA for vacation I get to experience the wonderful smog. God Bless Riverside County.

See, I went though there and I noticed that, and I was like "is that smog? No, it can't be" and thought it was just clouds or something.

But if that's the case, then yeah, San Bernadino/Rancho/Riverside are waaaay worse. Except your smog just looks like fog...ours is like...brown. =/

I think it has to do with something about LA being surrounded by mountains or something, so that the air can't escape. We have the same problem in Phoenix, and it's disgusting.

Yeah, when the wind blows through it blows the smog elsewhere and it's actually quite clear out. It's bizzare to go outside and actually see the hills surrounding campus.

What? No we don't. Or at least, it isn't such a problem that I would actually notice it.

The only time I ever notice smog in AZ is when I sit in the garage with my car running while I listen to linkin park.

    "linking park" xD

You sure you don't have a smog problem? Sometimes you don't notice it until you're in clear air for awhile and come back. Like when I came back from Hawaii, I was like "OH GODS THE SKY IS BROWN!"

I dunno, maybe I do and I'm just not very attentive. Maybe it's worse in downtown Phoenix. I've only been there a few times during the day.

Where I live is actually ok. I don't actaully live in Newcastle, I live a bit further, er, south I think! So there isn't any problem. However, there is a industrial park near where I live, and that makes a lot of pollution, but not actual smog!

The worst place i've been to for smog is Tokyo. Although I live in a small town and there's no smog problem here...that I know of. Besides the smog, thats a lovely view of the city you've got there DMKA.
