Jack Thompson Over the Edge?

Just for those who don't want to bother reading the links, after a number of mod makers actually make Jack Thompson's game, he retracted his offer saying it was nothing more than satire. In response, Penny Arcade donated $10,000 to charity in Jack Thompson's Name. Furthermore, and not mentioned in the articles, afterwards he faxed a letter to Seattle's police department trying to get them arrested, refering to it as an, and I quote, "extortion factory".

Jack Thompson is perhaps one of the most hilarious men I have had the misfortune of hearing about.

He is, by far, the dumbest person to live in modern history. Yes, moreso than Bush.

Ten years from now, everyone will look back and say, "Hot damn, that guy was an idiot." He's even been ostracised by the group that shares his message. He's constantly threatening legal action on no real grounds. Hell, if he read this thread, we'd probably all get personal phone calls from him telling us to stop, or else he'll sue. It's gone beyond the idea of a simple debate of who's responsible for violent content. Anymore, it's just about a guy, fighting for a cause that he doesn't understand, constantly putting himself deeper and deeper and ruining himself. He's like Tom Cruise on a much grander scale: Parading around his crackpot beliefs until everyone's annoyed and no one will take his opinion seriously. Except much, much, much dumber and much, much, much more annoying.

I can't imagine how he could possibly make his hole any deeper, but by God, I'm sure he'll find a way.

Jack is not special. He is not a unique snow flake as they say. He is just the latest vocal opponent of whatever is "corrupting" our youth at the moment. When my dad was growing up it was rock and roll devil music. Then it was comic books then movies and rap music. Today it’s videogames. If we were to succeed in getting Jack blacklisted from the major news outlets someone else would simply take his place. Imagine him as an actor playing a part in a play. The point is that Jack Thompson is not important. If he were to be fired a new actor would simply take up the role. The same lines would still be delivered in the same way and the same audience would pay to see it. We are actually fortunate that the current actor is so impotent in his role. Imagine what might happen if some charming, efficacious attorney took his place. The more I consider it the more I think we may be lucky to have Jack playing the part of the alarmist. The alternative might be someone who is actually capable.
