Re-read my post. I said assault is an offence even in cases without physical contact. Not that assault was somehow magically not a crime.

Its always the way(in every case ive ever been aware of) that when a gang beats someone, even to death that nothing or very very little is done. As far as these cases are concerned its a matter of taking things in your own hands and serving the much needed punishment out yourself. The law only serves to protect the criminals in these circumstances. And sometimes people are attacked in full view of the public and nobody steps in to help the person being attacked, which is despicable.
