Thank to TSoL for thegreat signautre!
Gil is nothing more than currency used in the various FF worlds. As was discoverd in a thread I made quite a while ago (see below), gil has no consistant exchange rate as its value varies from game to game. What has always confused me is how monsters seem to be an abundant source of this currency (except FFVIII).

You could argue they got it from victims, but I agree that a regular paycheck makes more sense that getting it from monsters. Too bad the SeeD rank system was poorly executed.
Sure, but what I disliked was the way it made life more difficult for people like me, who spend a lot of time building up characters in between the main adventures.
Well, fish have gills. So I guess in some FF realities, they use rotting fish parts for currency. Weirdos.
They're just coins made out of silver, gold, and other precious metals.

I don't think there was any mistranslation. It's just what it's called.

Except that they made it fit the 2 character length by calling it "G". I therefore conclude no.Originally Posted by Hsu
Clearly, the money is named after either an important ruler or the founder of the economic system. In this case, that person is obviously Gillian Anderson of X Files fame. If you need further proof, just consider that Gillian Anderson is teh hotness. I rest my case.
