Thread: Gradeus or Atma Weapon?

one of my pillows once taught me ice-2.... If a pillow can teach that, surely a shield can teach ultima.... anyway, you need to do about 250 battlesw while cursed-petrified-scared-berseked-bored-zombified-confused-stuffed before you start learning ultima...

paladin shield is good, but you dont need that to complete the game... i find it uselessly long to uncurse it. Sure, it make you absrorb so much elements that you can walk through the sun while gaining back hp, but unless you have an emulator with speedboost, they will find you dead in front of your tv before you can wear that damn pally shield...

Ribbon + Cursed Shield only gives you the condemned status effect. I find it easiest to uncurse it on the Solitary Island, since everything there dies on it's own.

uhm actually fire shield teaches fire 2, ice shield teaches ice 2, and thunder shield teaches bolt 2
there are other weapons/shields/armor that teach magic too, just find an item in the list, and hit A, then hit A again to see more details!

It's also 255 battles, because if you notice, 255 is the max number for any stat in pretty much every FF game.....

I didn't know you can get two Atma weapons

Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

I don't think the Paladin Shield is worth the 255 battles you have to fight with it, but it's your call. I usually go with the Ragnarok Magicite to get Ultima, instead of trading the Ragnarok sword for Illumina, which isn't as good as Atma Weapon anyway. But hey, to each his own.

EDIT: You should be smacked for even considering trading the Atma Weapon for the Gradeus.

yea, you can get a gradeus dagger in the cave to the ancient castle.

I think the force shield teaches shell or something.

Actually, one is gotten in the cave and the other one is stolen from the last form of the final bosses before you fight Kefka himself.

Here a pic to make this clearly

how useful to steal a weapon from the second to last boss. at least you can steal a megalixer from Kefka, and that can actually be useful too.

You can change your equipment to dual Atma Weapon with Genji Glove and Offering which will deal 9999*8 damage to Kefka killing him instantly in one turn.

EDIT:But you must have equipped the Genji Glove and Offering before the battle.

teh shield is worth it and the sword may not be as good as atma weapon but if you take the esper you only have 1 verry verry strong sword pick the ragnarock/illumina and you have 2 verry verry powerfull sowrds

i know there are more but these swords can be ecuipted by almost everyone who needs swords (terra/celes/locke*/shadow*/Edgar)

    *can use daggers to

you can never ecuipe em all but now you can ecuipe (geeze forget how to spell it :P) 2 of em with great swords
Too big. <-- yeah i heard that one before

Shadow can't equip the Atma Weapon. I don't think Shadow can equip any swords.

And it's a matter of opinion whether or not the Paladin Shield is worth carrying around the Cursed Shield for so long. It's just an annoyance to me, I'm sure other people live by it. And I put higher value on avoiding the uncursing and having Metamorph than having to go through the uncursing as the only way to get Ultima.

I just put the Cursed Shield on one character with the ribbon and then go on with the game like normal. Sometimes boss fights are tougher that way, though.

True. But it's not really the hassle of wearing it, just wearing it for that long. If you wait to get 8 characters before you go through Pheonix Cave and get Locke, then you only have five characters left to get, and a couple sidequests, before you're prettymuch done and ready to take on Kefka. Wearing it really isn't a problem, it's having to find something to do to find the 255 battles you need. I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't fight 255 battles in the entire WoR.

I usually go get Mog after I first get the airship and get the Moogle Charm. Then I go do the Phoenix Cave, with Mog in one group with the Moogle Charm and Celes, Edgar, Sabin and Setzer in the other group. That way I can start on the shield early, or learn Ultima from the esper, depending upon how I feel like playing through.
