Regarding some previous posts: Technically, Illumina IS better than AtmaWeapon.
Sure, Atma ignores defenses and all that jazz, but due to the way it works, Atma will NEVER get a critical hit, and the depends on HP part is just a bad thing against it, since for most of the game Atma will be inflicting terrible damage, and I'm sure not everyone is bothered to get to LV99 just to see Atma inflict max damage.
Illumina, on the other hand, not only has a perfect hit rate and Bat.Pwr, but also greatly increases the evade (Useless, but oh well) and MBlock stat (This is good, mind you) AND gives you a boost of 7 to stamina, speed(?), MPower and Vigor (Making it's technical bat. pwr 269 due to the way Vigor works).
That aside, Illumina has the "Uses a measly ammount of MP to inflict an automatical critical hit" thing going on to it AND the random Pearl Castings.. but no only that! due to the way random castings work, if Illumina's attack was an automatical crit. hit (IE. You had 19+ MP when you attacked) Pearl will also get a critical hit (Despite the fact spells normally can't get critical hits).
In addition Illumina ignores back row (although so does Atma, but it was worth mentioning anyway)

I liked Graedus a lot, Locke instantly started dealing 5000 DMG on LOW strength, which I think is pretty damn cool.Originally Posted by Unknowns

Locke has much better options than Gradeus.
Valiant Knife, anyone?

Yes, sure, I just thought the Gradeus was pretty good when I first used it;Originally Posted by Nightmare X
I mean, compared to the Wing Edge I had right before.
Graedus DOES belong to the best weapons, btw.
Er, you get the ValiantKnife along with Locke in the WoR.

Yeah, but back then, it's kinda worthless, since Locke relies too much on low HP at medium Vigor.Originally Posted by Nightmare X
I always boost his Vigor to insanity before using the ValiantKnife.
Right now he's got 128 Vigor, and using the Atma Weapon and the ValiantKnife he kills *everything* by himself.![]()
Meh, I just gave hm a paladin shield and that pearl-casting blade. Illumina.
Illumina *Is* the best weapon in the game, but I see more use to it in any of the other 3 characters that can use them (Terra, Celes or Edgar).

Well, the way that I see it...
Have Celes equip whatever relic it takes to use two weapons. K, now, give her the Atma Weapon and the Valiant Knife. Now no matter how much HP she has, she's got plenty of attack power. Cha! Well, ususally I give her an Enconomizer and a GemBox, but anyone who can use swords, I give them that mix...
Celes can't equip the Valiantknife.
And I don't remember if Merit Award allowed you to equip it.
Anyway, that idea is better in Locke.

Illumina does have the highest stats in the game, technically making it the optimum weapon. HOWEVER... I found Atma Weapon hitting for maximum damage way before I got to level 99. Granted, it can never get a critical hit, but when it is already outputting the highest possible damage per swing, that doesn't really matter. The random pearl castings can be a problem in some cases- some enemies absorb it (although not many, only one I can think of is Pearl Dragon), some have a passive Rflect on them, and others actually cast Rflect on themselves. If given the option I'd rather have a weapon that has no spell proc (except maybe Ultima or Meteor) to make it more suitable to any situation.
Oh yeah, and there's no way in hell I would give up the Ragnarok magicite for the Ragnarok sword. All your characters having the Ultima spell > Illumina.
^Paladin Shield is the way to go.

Not for the lazy. :POriginally Posted by Nightmare X
But I agree.
Yeah, good point, I hate how it takes so frikking long to uncurse it.
I always end getting it, though.
