Excalibur

I've heard of ppl just using Tidus' Excalibur instead of his leagendary weapon bc a time of 0:0.0 is pretty much a pain in the calm lands. I was wanting to know: where do you get it? what abilities would I have to equip for it to be the equivilant of Caladbolg (?sp?)? And what items do I need to be able to customize the abilities to the weapon? If there's rare items, where do I get them? Sorry so many questions, but if I thought I wouldnt get answers, I wouldnt have bothered asking. Hope to get this pretty soon. Thanx in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Forgot, but you should really try to get the sigil for Tidus though. The celestial weapons have "invisible damage" which is where if you are comparing Tidus with Caladbolg with strength of 255 and another Tidus with Excalibur and strength of 255, the Tidus with Caladbolg would deal more damage because of "invisible damage"

I've never heard of "invisible damage". Does that just make it easier to strike without fiends dodging it?

no. It's just extra damage done because it's a celestial weapon.

I never fully activated Caladbolg, but I was able to win the game quite easily without it. U.S. version, mind you. The defining characteristic on Excalibur is Break Damage Limit which you can customize with 60 Dark Matter. Easiest way to get 99 is to capture 5 of each fiend.

I added these abilities to it:

Triple Overdrive
(30 Winning Formula; Get 99 for capturing 1 of every fiend in all areas)

One MP Cost
(20 Three Stars; get 60 for capturing 1 one of every fiend in 2 areas)

Double AP
(20 Megalixirs; get 30 for capturing 2 aquatic fiends of each type on Mt. Gagazet)

You can buy swords with four empty slots from Wantz in Macalania Woods after taking the airship to Highbridge, if you talked to him on Mt. Gagazet.

Customize Break Damage Limit onto any of Tidus' swords with an empty slot, it should become an Excalibur automatically. It's better to start with a sword with four empty slots, available from Wantz.

I don't think any fiend drops Excaliburs, but I could be wrong.

You first meet him on Mt. Gagazet. If you talk to him then, then he'll reappear in the entrance to Malcalania Woods after the events at Highbridge. He sells a complete array of weapons and armor with 4 empty slots for every character.

wantz is at the entrance to macalania forest, towards the end of the game... yeh, he sells weapons and armor with four empty slots.

btw, a weapon will become excaliber if it has Break Damage Limit (60x Dark Matter)... if you want to exactly copy the Caladbolg, you need, break damage limit, triple overdrive, evade and counter, and magic counter

EDIT: as Lulus moogle said, yes the celestial weapons have what could be called invisible damage... they ignore the defences of enemies, which is extremely useful for fighting things like the dark aeons. if you were using an excaliber to fight the dark aeons, you would do way less damage. also, celestial weapons have certain characteristics that make them stronger, ie, the Caladbolg is stronger when Tidus has full health.

I dont even know what I need to customize a weapon with evade and counter, and magic counter. I've been getting a lot of things from the Arena for catching all the fiends and I used some of it to customize other weapons.

you need a teleport sphere for Evade & counter (dropped by sleep sprout - monster arena)

you need 16 shining gems for magic counter, but i reckon you should put another ability on, its not that useful. 60 shining gems for capturing every monster in macalania snowfields/forest area

I just bought a sword from Wantz. Right now, I only have the stuff to put Double AP, and One MP cost on it. I've been running around in Omega Dungeon trying to get Dark Matters and whatever else I need.
