I'd have to say one of the best ff settings is the flower field outside the old orphange in FFVIII. However I personally prefer that ride you go on in FFVII where you oversee all of the Gold Saucer. The character you go with depends on your decisions of how you respond to them in conversation and who you take along with you in battle.

VII had a really interesting futuristic setting very urban like you said it appealed to me straight away.

the Gardens in ff8 were niffty
cool design
I'll just categorize by the places I love.
FFX:
Bikanel. Especially at the Oasis. Square did an awesome job with this place.
Moonflow. This is the one that seems closest to how my home is.
Inside Sin. This is the most graphically and emotionally stunning.
FF9:
Wow. I don't remember a lot of the places in ff9.
That one tree that sorta got demolished was cool, and I loved the dwarves' place. whatever the city is with all the water and Gilgamesh was memorable (although its name isn't) Really the only interesting place name I can remember is Oeilvert.
FF8:
Garden. I love Garden. The whole military school aspect just appeals to me, and Balamb Garden is GORGEOUS. Blue tile floors, lots of water running through it, and did I mention the gorgeous tiling? Far prettier than galbadia's steel death trap feel.
Dollet. Dollet seems like an incrediably neat resort town with the accordian [Dance with the Balamb Fish?] theme. I think I would like to go there on saturday nights and have a mix between the bars and the beach
Esthar. I would like to live in Esthar. Live and work in the big city with shopping malls and pop across the train tracks to the clubs town ^_^ Esthar includes space, btw.
FF7:
wherever the heck yuffie was from was really neat.
and the golden saucer had beautiful music ^____^
FF6:
One place I hated for sure was NARSHE. I wouldn't mind if kefka set it aflame one of these days. maybe he did and I forgot.
wherever celes almost died was fun>
the fanatics tower was neat and freaky:O
ff5:
Pirate's Cave!
Mirage~
Requiem Village.
That one forest:O the one that BURNS
FF4:
this had individual locations? I just remember the land of dwarves, the land of monsters and the land of lunar. the land of summoned monsters was sorta neat though.
FF2:
the snowfields!
where the last dragoon lived
the chocobo forest![]()
i liked ff7 setting but then the beaches was good in ff10 and ff9 i liked how they done most of the citys and little cute houses they was good but above all i seem to like ff7 with midgar and the places like the north carter golden saucer was good

Midgar definitely was the best of all the FFs. I quote by brother when he said "I was hoping the whole game was gonna be in here!" FF9 had the best overall though imo. I can't think of a place that I hated in that game. Everything about it was surreal and amazing. Memoria was just an amazing last dungeon. It had beauty, fear, and an overwhelming sense of ill omen. It was really well done. 8 had its moments, but few places realy blew me away. 10 was gorgeous as well. Overall, once again. wicked. I'm surprised more people aren't completely taken with 9 though.
I actually, I take that back! The best was (for it's time) FF4. I mean, it didn't leave any type of setting. Moon, techno, underground, mystical, town, castle, forest, caves. Honestly, what setting didn't it have!?!
... That is rhetorical btw
FF9 and FF6 for me. I loved the look of FF9's locations. It was like seeing the games I had grown up with such as FF4, and FF6 in a 3D setting, and was absolutely wonderful. FF6 will also always be a favorite of mine. I loved places like the desert base, sealed gate, floating continent, Vector, Opera House, the Phantom train, Cyan's dreamworld, and I could probably go on forever. A lot of areas in that game are very memorable.
I've also got to agree with Prancing Mad on FF4. It had a lot of cool areas too.
I really liked Zanarkand (before it's destroyed) I wished there weren't just brief glimpses of it, and is it just me or does the music in FFX-2 in Zanarkand sound like a grocery store? or at least elevator music? I was doing themonkey-love sidequest thingy and that's how the music struck me.
I think 95% of the soundtrack sounded that way if you ask me. It was very underwhelming. I probably would have liked it more if they just completely rehashed the FF10 soundtrack.Originally Posted by plasman

I'll agree with plasman, I liked Zanarkand before it was destroyed by Sin. I also really liked Balamb Garden and Esthar. My favorite from FFVIII, though, is the Shumi Village. IX? ...I don't really have a favorite from there. I guess it was all pretty good. I didn't particularly enjoy it though. VII had some of the most memorable places, imo. The Forgotten Capitol/Forgotten City, Temple of the Ancients, and of course Midgar. I can't wait to see Midgar redone in Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus! But anything on SNES and lower I didn't have any interest in. The one exception is the Phantom Forest from VI.![]()
