I want to be an astronaut.

I remember in fourth grade, I was a pansy and thought 'maybe I'll just be in mission controls; I don't want to blow up and die.'

and then I forgot about it for ages.

But, after going to space camp and playing disc 3 of ff8, I started thinking about space again. Maybe I'm too influenced by media (I adored the movie Armageddon when it came out ^_^), but if anyone from my school could be an astronaut, I know it would be me.

What do I need to be looking for when colleges keep trying to recruit me and stuff? Aerospace and astrophysics stuff sounds like the most obvious suggestions, but what else? (mathsciencewhat)

I know historically a lot of astronauts have been in the Air Force, but I really don't want to swing the Armed Forces way. Or should I just tough it up?
