Yes, it is set a year after AC. AC is set two years after FFVII, so that makes DoC a year after AC.

There is a distinction between being 1 year after AC and 3 years after the end of FFVII. The events of AC are not considered in DoC, so the game is set 3 years after FFVII.

No. While the events of AC may not be hugely important to DC, the stories cannot be mutually exclusive, or else one or both stories becomes extracanonical. Moreover, there are already some points where they converge; one might note that Cid can be seen flying the Sierra/Shera in the official DC trailer. While the events of FFVII are certainly more important, it's completely correct to speak of DC as taking place a year after AC.

i read that it took place 1 year after AC in the trailers of the Japanese version of AC but it also did state that it took place 3 years after FFVII, and it does show Shera being flown after Vincent jumps out of it...so AC may not be too important to this game but it does have some of the stuff that was in AC put in the trailers of DoC, and i know FFVII is alot more important in this game than AC.

They ripped off Red xiii again! Figures...They better put ALL of the characters in. They should at least have a role. In ff7 they each had a role since DoC is kind of a spin off of ff7 each character should be in it and have a role.

As it is a spin-off, I think it's pretty reasonable not to expect every Final Fantasy VII character to be in it. Hopefully it won't just be chock-full of little stupid guest appearances. But that's a lot to wish for.
