I don't know at the moment the exchange rate of pounds to dollars is but I think the price is average for a new system now.
Price of the bare bones system: 299 US dollars
Premium set with harddrive, backwards compatability, and free XBox live: 399.
I can afford one Premium set and a game with just two weeks pay.
PS3 shall be quite expensive as well.
I swear PS2 was like that last year, i think all consoles are worth the price......
PS3 is gonna be like 500 here in the states, or so it is rumored, making it around 250 in europe

and my PSX, well I got that for free, but that also cost £300 or so at launch.

Seriously, not only will it have the best game library ever, it has a controller that can both simulate sword fights on screen and double as a dildo, rendering it also the system most prone to having vulgar jokes made about it, which gives it yet another point. I like to wait until the consoles drop a hundered or so bucks until I buy them. Of course, I have no plans to buy the Xbox thing anyway.
