So if it's not a Materia, then it's not Holy. Which can only mean...

    ...that I haven't got a clue.

Anything to do with Cloud's memories? 'recollected' made me think of it, and I don't know what else to guess.
    This is a signature.

    No, to both. Repost:

    Like a simple science project
    Saturation unto a string
    Or adult’s chalice elect,
Is the nature of this thing.

    You may spare the hopper,
    With your new hope erected,
    Or “rightfully gain copper”
    When trials are recollected.

Another hint: line 7 refers to something engrained in U.S. culture, which is why it's in quotes. I see now that a lot of the regulars are not from the U.S. ..You might still have heard what this refers to.

Okay...it's not the thing itself, it's a reference to it. Think "really well-known phrases that involve the 'gaining' of copper".

Yeah, I'm guessing this riddle is a real stretch. I'll give the answer tonight or tomorrow. I'll bring my body armor.

(I said it had nothing to do with mako or materia..)

it's the reference to the said object of crystallization. check

the phrase of hard work....no check. That my good sir is where i'm lost.

P.S.: Please check out the riddle thread on the AC forum. if you're stuck here, go there.

    not the process of crystallization...

...Hard work? The expression isn't about hard work. Unless you're a shopaholic, I suppose....

Ah ha! ok, now we're getting somewhere.

    ok so...

it's the object that is formed by crystallization. check

    not mako/materia. check

    2nd.

you buy it (?) or you get it from effort.

reference to object formed by crystallization that you can buy.

heh, I meant the other way around. If you're a shopaholic, "doing this" would be very difficult.

Ok, so you don't buy it.

but an Ice Crystal you can't buy. You have to get it from the chocobo races.

p.s. check out the riddle thread on the AC forum.

Ack! Sorry, no, it's not the ice crystal.

Edit: hint: but it IS an item.

Edit 2: hint 2: line 7 refers to an expression involving a penny. hence the copper..

hint 3: "hopper" refers to a garbage hopper, and it's symbolic, not literal.

hint 4: the answer is two words. stanza 1 is about one of the words (and the item's "nature"), and stanza 2 is about the other word (what the item does).

Ah! See when you said 'hopper' I was thinking like the grain hopper! *chuckles*

The only thing that comes to mind about the penny is a Luck Source.

    THE SAVE CRYSTAL!

"A penny saved is a penny earned." (Penny earned = Gain copper.)

I hope I'm right, my guess was a real "eureka" moment!
My Cure spell brings all the boys to the yard,
And they're like: "It's better than yours."
Damn right, it's better than yours!
I could Heal you, but I have to charge.

Yep, okay, and here's the breakdown.

    Like a simple science project
    Saturation unto a string
    (the sugar crystallization thing)

    Or adult’s chalice elect,

    chalice = glass,
adult = only for adults, meaning involving alcohol
elect = high-class or high-quality...a crystal wine glass

Is the nature of this thing. (the thing is crystal)

    You may spare the hopper,
    With your new hope erected,
(keep from wasting/"trashing" your time [dying and starting from outside the cave] by having access to this thing)

    Or “rightfully gain copper”
    When trials are recollected.
("earn" the recollection of your trials by saving them first)

    You're up, mage!
