    FinalCetra has cracked it. Congrats.

It is the life of the Planet and the struggle to preserve it,

    She? I'm a guy. Anyway, I think I have a fan.

I'm at uni at the moment so don't expect great things from this riddle.

From black to white, and back again
    Back again I go
The tutor to the student gives
The tutor dies, the student lives

What battle situation/event is the riddle describing?

That one is a bit tough for me, since I haven't played FFVII in a long time...and sorry, I thought you were a female from the avatar. And yes, I think you have a fan, lol.

I think it is the battle between Sephiroth and Cloud in his flashback at the Nibelheim Mako Reactor.

That's not it. Its describing something that could happen in a random encounter.

Apology accepted. I just like Quistis.

In that case I'm stumped. I keep thinking about that tutor part, but nothing comes to mind. If I had to guess...I would think those things in the Northern Cave that you have to give elixers to to get rid of...I forgot what they are called.

And I liked Quistis too, though Selphie and Rinoa were my fav FF8 females.

    Magic Pots.

I'm going to guess learning Pandora's Box, since Dragon Zombies die after casting it.

    Thanks.

Pandora's Box was such a pain to learn it sticks in my memory I guess.

    Not your enemy
    But in the way
    The serpent's spell
    Can clear a path

The flames in the Da-Chao cave. You need the Leviathan Scales to remove them.

That fits, but I was thinking of the reverse case.

Well, I thought I knew FFVII untill I started posting here. This one is hard.

Not Your Enemy- Then perhaps an obstacle? Or a Chocobo perhaps?
But in the way- If it's in the way, it is likely some kind of obstacle that isn't necesserely an enemy.
The seprants spell can clear the path- This implies one can fight it, though it isn't an enemy, and is really what has me stumped.

Perhaps that giant bird that attacks that girl in Junon?

Looks like Forest Owl won. I forgot all about those darned flames!
