Is it those Icicles that you have to destroy on the northern continent in the mountains?
The Materia Keeper is blocking the path forward in Mt. Nibel, but I don't see how the serpent's spell (Beta from the Zolom?) would help in that situation.

It's the giant icicles in the cave. Beta or any other fire spells work well against them.
