No, it's not the Guard Scorpion. Or Cloud.

Is it the Enemy Skill Materia?

    Nope.

Edit: Btw, there's more to the riddle than just letting you know that topaz is "something yellow".

Can we have another hint then? I'm stumped.

I'm going to give it a little time, now. You and I have been going back and forth, and we're both on right now; I want to give more people a chance.

Yes it is. I would just really dislike it if the answer was based on some heretical rumor. I'd have to send the winged monkeys out after you, man.

Are you thinking of the amethyst? That has a violet color to it.

Cloud was going to be my next guess.

Hmm...is it a reference to cowardice instead of literal color? I'm guessing Don Corneo, who takes a little dive courtesy of your friendly neighborhood Turks.

Yeah, everything mentioned in the riddle exists in the game. No tricks.

...Well, one trick. But a different kind of trick.

Topaz can actually be a number of colors, but I associated it with yellow-amber.

Edit: Oh heavens, I almost forgot. No, not Corneo's dive.

Aha! There isn't a Topaz, so that means it's a trick question.

No, it's not a trick question. You just quoted what I said: "..everything mentioned in the riddle exists in the game."

Is it the sun (a yellow star) blowing up in Sephiroth's Supernova attack?

No, neither of those..very clever though. The answer isn't that obscure. Here's a hint:

The first four lines are in chronological order.

You transposed the first and second events. Sapphire dies before Ultima does:

Does topaz refer to the glowing yellow core of Bizarro-Sephiroth, which gets neatly dissected by the party?

No, it doesn't refer to Bizarro Sephiroth's core.

Trust me, I made no error in the order of events. That's why it was a hint.
