not quite sure what definitive answer you're looking for but i think alex is referring to alexander and the item that's not there but is could be referring to the elixir you can get in the same place over and over again because it doesn't disappear when you pick it up.

I'm guessing "here" is where the riddle's answer comes in, i.e. it's a location (possibly abstract) where the aforementioned object resides.
Also, according to Wikipedia, Alex can mean "pathfinder of man". Just speculating.
