Devil, if it's the sleeping man it CAN'T fit with the riddle. because there is no demolished road where the sleeping man is. The only way it could is if it was metaphorical

on the demolished road <--- you can't walk there you need another form of transport such as the buggie or a blue chocobo.
i lay and wait and wait <---- he's fast asleep and doesn't move whatsoever until you have an even battle number I believe.
moving only to lift my head <--- then he wakes up when you have even battle number
and offer strength to one who came <--- he'll give you a bolt ring, or Mythril if you've spoken to the weapon seller.

no because that's no where near a route to the cave. a road is a path leading to somewhere, The sleeping man was not on a route for anyone, it was impossible to get to without the buggy or furthermore, a high bred chocobo.
