Ok, i'm guessing it's ghost ship, guidebook, or underwater materia... since they're all related very closely and fit... since you use transform on ghost ship to get the guidebook which you trade for underwater materia

"Turn the other way" isn't quite as literal as the effect of Manipulate, but you're on the right track that Manipulate's needed here.

Protip: All this stuff about "running back" and "turn the other way" means backtracking. I'm hoping this is the last big hint I'll really need to give, now start translating the other lines :P

is it the white wind enemy skill? the only way u can get it is to use manipulate on the enemies outside mithril mine, which means going back after getting the materia

I'm almost positive you can also get it from those flying dragon things in the Whirlwind Maze, before the Reunion.

my mistake although the back tracking tghing would be easier. i was gonna say big guard but i think u can get them from something later in the game too.

"Bring you up to speed" refers to the Haste effect, "Fortitude equally divine" means you can otherwise get the Barrier Materia once you've been to Rocket Town (Time is in Gongaga, and if you miss it, it's in Rocket Town right next to Barrier), and "Eighteen plus fifty eight?" refers to the individual costs of casting Haste and Wall repsectively.

P.S. I'm gonna be ultra pedantic and mention that there's no way to learn White Wind off the Wing Wing, as you can't Manipulate them and I believe it's unaffected by Reflect.
