I think you go back to the city of karnak.
If that's so, be prepared to run really fast (preequipt Dash if you'd like) and have learn blue magic on

(SPOILER)tons of good items in the chests in the castle. You may want to play this a couple times and try to get the good stuff out of the chests. (If it is indeed the part where the castle is burning down)

in that case you should go south east from karnak to the library of ancients.

Anyway, I got Ifrit. That's it though.

Make sure you get a learner and learn Aqua rake in the smaller desert region. IT is a lifesaver when you have to fight desert types; Kill certain bosses in one hit. (mainly on world 1)

I always found it amusing that it vehemently says not to use magic on the Sandworm, but one Aqua Rake kills it.

i think you can either do some sidequest such as getting ramuh or visiting jacole cave or you need to go to cresent island (SE island on the map)... can't give away spoilers but something will happen to your ship...

You can only pass through the desert at a certain part of the game, don't worry about that yet. To find the cresent island open up your map, and you should see a half-a-circle type shape consisting of small islands follow that with your ship untill you see a town on one of the islands.

Big hint: The island is cresent shaped.
