Wasn't Garuda known as the Slayer of Serpents? This ties in well with the second verse too, as the FFX Garudas look intimidating, but you can kick them about pretty easily in that infamous tutorial battle on Besaid with Dark Attack and Lulu's Black Magic.

By the sound of the second verse, it sounds like an enemy. Probably one vulnerable to both fire and lightning... only one I can think of is Geosgaeno, which doesn't fit in with the rest of the verse, but I've got nothing better. Is it Geosgaeno?
