Isn't Tonberry King supposed to appear when you have 20 Chef's Knives?
I have 23 already. I didn't kill all those Tonberries tho, I mugged most of them and ran away [because it takes sooo long to kill one].
Is it essential to kill the 20 Tonberries?

Yes, killing between 22 and 25 Tonberries or so. TK will rise to take the place of the last one within the same battle.

Yeah, but you can go back and kill 18 and then exit and save then go back to kill the last few. The game keeps track of Tonberry kills.
Okay then.
Btw, is there any fast and effective way to kill them? The best I've come up with is keeping Squall's HP on yellow and hitting the Tonberry with a few Renzokukens...

yes keep squall HP low and just have him use Renzokukon
and u should kill it

I've found Demi is very effective on regular Tonberries, as is Diablos.
They're useless on TK though.
The number of Tonberry kills necessary to summon TK varies, but it's rarely less than 18 or more than 25.
I fought him after 23 or so.

you can get aura stones by refining steel pipes so i have aout 100 auras on each char.

i know that the guy who made this thread already has the gf but this for those who have a long time defeating the tonberries
bring quistis and well squall...
have quistis and squall in critical health...
equip encounter none until you get to the statue
take encounter none off...
get into battle (only tonberries appear, nothing else)
have quistis do the first move... if shes not the fastest, skip the other people until she is... now the key to it all... use micro missile... causing over 9990 damage...
next let squall do renzokuken... you see that was easy... tonberry dies within 2 turns... you shouldn't lose any health this way as tonberry is to slow to do anything...
easiest way to kill tonberries without having to summon gfs...
tonberry king has a chance to appear after 15 tonberries are killed... tonberry king is harder than normal tonberries... after ke kills one of your characters, just cast phoenix down and keep on using renzokuken and he dies pretty quickly....
