I was precisely about to ask about backwards compatability. I have to suspect there's some way for them to permit a PS3 to play any region's PS2 games, seeing as piraters can do it, but who knows?
PS3 is supposed to be backwards compatible, last I heard. Whether or not you can play games from other regions is yet to be seen.

If this is true, then, I'd be damned to make a premature announcement that Sony wins the Console Wars!
Hisui & Kohaku: I play as them in Melty Blood.
Its good to hear but maybe then different versions of the game will come to an end; as in the Blu Ray disk can hold 50GB of data so i think that would be enough room to put all the main languages from around the world on the same disk.
Nintendo has been planing to get rid on Region Codes for the Revolution for quite a while now. lol and they've been doing that for a long time, in their handheld consoles.
Heck even the GC doesn't have much of a region code... beyond almost just a little switch inside... (almost XD)
If the PS3 also comes out with no region code, thats good news for all those people that like to import Japanese games (that never make it to the states)
