Has anyone managed to beat him?

I realised fighting him again, that hes actually pretty difficult. Most people i kno who have the game haven't even taken out the final aeons, so penance is a bit far off, but I was just wondering has anyone else killed him?

Many people have beaten him, he's not that difficult with max stats, he just takes a really long time.

hmm this critter takes me back to the the month i got Final Fantasy X...Anyway this guy was a great adversary he challenged me more than Ruby Weapon, Omega Weapon and Ozma put together.

I did it twice. First time didnt really count, i was about 10mins into and was getting really tired and Yojimbo'd his ass. I didnt save it so i could fight him again the next morning, so i was fresh and alert...took me about an hour and a bit

Penance is fairly hard, but it's not THE ultra-mega-hard boss to defeat.(if you have strategy of course), but anyway he is the coolest boss in ffX.

you need a good strategy. its not all about maxing your stats that matters. you still die countless of times.

Super cheap, stupid, honorless, absolutely not recomended and boring so-called stragedy: Zanmato

Cheap and boring stragedy: Have auto potion, auto haste, ribbon and auto-protct on your armours, 255 def and use Rikku's Trio of 9999 in the very begining of the battle as well as a few "cheers". You'll be almost invincible.

Recomended stragedy: Get the ability "Quick Hit", max stats like strength, defense, agility and accuracy and get your luck higher than 100. Then just get some half-assed armour (Break HP limmit, auto-haste, "whatever you want" and "whatever you want") and the celecial weapons and just fight without using any cheap and boring tricks!

Coolest stragedy: NONE! Just jump into the battle unprepared! It's soooo kewl to do so!

I beat Pennance, but it must have been the longest and hardest battle I had ever taken part in! I think it was a waste of time in the end, it didn't make any difference to the game, okay it makes me look like a professional in front of all my FFX friends, but I thought it was pretty pointless really.

But I suppose it makes me better at FFX! Because hell it was hard! But i got away with it without using Yo Jimbo, so thats even better!
