this is my favourite FF and the first one I played (they always say the first time is the best).
The only three things that sucked about this game were:
1. the ending- necron was just wtf?.
2. the out of proportion characters.
3. the ice cavern.
Okay, he is weak and easy, but Ultimecia is much easier. I defeat her using Bio -_-''' and magic in this game is crap, out of junctions -___-
By the title, I thought I'd just add I dont like ff9 much anyway.
I would like a step by step run through on how you beat Ultimecia using just Bio?:rolleyes2
The Ultamecia fight kinda depends on what magic she steals during the fight. like if she takes all my Aura or Full Life or Curaga then the battle is gonna be a lot tougher than if she takes say Tornado or Ultima. I rarely use attack spells against the later boss of FF8 i usually just cast Aura on all my party members and wail on the boss with constant Limit Breaks pausing only to heal. This works really well since i usually get Squall's Lionheart on Disc 2 and I have all of Zell's move written down for easy access to the finishers and I always have plenty of ammo for Irvine. So anymore Ultimecia is pretty easily ecspecially if i use the Hero item on all my party members but she was hard the first time or two unlike Necron.

FF9 is a final fantasy! If squaresoft thought it sucked then they wouldn't have made it!
Did you like TSW because most people hated it and that was made by Square so that blows your "Square doesnt release anything bad" idea all to hell. Plus i hear all the time how much people hated 9, 8, 7, TA, and ecspecially X-2 so dont tell me that every game or movie that Square makes is awesome because some of them arent.

Yeah it has the FF title to it? So what, they dont always have success releases. Look at TSW or FFUlimited.

Fun game but fun diminishes later on... garnet is not very likeable compared to Yuna from FFX, rinoa in 8 and aeris/th in 7 but its still a decent game

i didnt like some of the chars
still a decent game
I loved everything about this game: the abilities, magic system, trances, and especially Quina and Freya.
FF IX is pretty awesome. It was the second Final Fantasy I played!
Square wouldn't have made the game if they thought it sucked!
