I want to convert some old VHS tapes to DVD as a Christmas present to someone. What kind of store would I go to get such a service?

If you have any photo stores nearby that sell camcorders, they may offer that kind of service.

There's a much more complicated and potentially expensive method, but if you just want a place to do it for you, that'd be your best route.
