Most of his music contains the same themes. The fact that he continues to have success tells us just how good those themes are.

most of his themes are paraphrases of themes written by past composers.

the score to ep 3 was pretty cool, though.

oh i definitely agree, but it wasn't as memorable as something like raiders of the lost ark
maybe it's cuz i havent seen the movie yet, maybe i need to hear the songs with the action before i can hold a tune from ep3 in my head, which i can't at this point.

Holy cow, someone made a thread on Star Wars and it wasn't me!

Williams never denied that he was influenced by other composers; all composers are. More specifically, some of his primary influences were Gustav Holst, Peter Tchaikovsky, and Richard Wagner. The score to the Star Wars films is actually much like Wagner's Ring cycle.

well, there's a difference between being influenced and writing derivative music. That said, John Williams does a good job with what he has, he just ins't the most original composer on the block.

I love his The Olympic Spirit for the '88 Olympics.

It's so much better than the normal olympic fanfare. One of those songs that makes you want to be proud of something. I love those types.

We ran a John Williams field show the first year I was in marching band, so that set the bar for every year since then.

His music is great fun to play, but I'd hesitate before calling it great.

His score for Jurassic Park is one of the best scores of all time.
