Um.. A friend of mine set up an LJ for me but I don't really understand the point of it... Is it like a message board?

It's a like a journal that the entire world can see.

Some people use it as a message board type thing with the 'Communities' and the posting of comments.

I use it because I like to document my life (if I forget something that happened on day, I can go to that day in my lj and have a good idea of what it was) and entertain others.

It's kinda like a blog...You can just put things about yourself, what's going on in life,or just random things like Psy and Meat Puppet do..

Yeah, I use my LJ as a journal for my every day life, to show photos and art, and to remind myself of things. I use it as a way to talk to others too, through comments, if I don't talk to them on messangers often.

I post roo-bish on there and generally embarrass myself...Still, only a couple of people read it, so I'm safe!

It's pretty much just like a messege board. You can type in whatever you want, and then people comment in it. You can lock it so that only the people on your friends list can read it so there is some privacy. It's a place to record your day, express ideas, and many other things.

I use LJ to complain at society, mainly old people.

I use my LJ to post whatever random crap comes into my head. Sometimes it'll be about my day, sometimes it won't be. And I naturally use it to post random crap about other people's days in their LJs. If anyone, for whatever strange and depraved reason, wishes to add me, feel free to do so as I always add everyone back. Unless you're Joel.
