But even if Betrix was up there, I still would've gone with Freya.

Beatrix joins the party (i.e. Steiner) temporarily to help defend Alexandria from the Mistodens. You get her permanantly via gameshark but there's no point to it as Steiner ends up learning her skills anyway.
