Jack or Knave ?

Ok, let's take an obscure subject of debate and slam it head first into the hulking abomination called Spam dominating this forum, shall we ?

Some people would support the argument that a Jack is a Jack. Others would support the argument that a Jack is not a Jack but a Knave. Logically then we can conclude that Jacks are not Knaves and Knaves are not jacks.

So, what do you call them ?

Subjectively, a jack is just a guy. A knave is a scroundel of either sex.

But I guess it could be an issue to people who like to get confused that soda is pop or vice versa. Sigh.

it was actually in 1843 that the name Jack was popularised for the card also known as knave in a deck of cards. It has enjoyed varying degrees of success, until today, when it has all but completely superceded the use of the word knave when using playing cards.
