Yes they all have themes of love and friendship. And all of them are based on the absolute final fantasy fact that the cheese man is actually manipulating all these seperate dimensions to do his evil bidding in the end

we know the FFs aren't in chronological order, but it's kind of fun to think that maybe...

1-6 ARE in order (the first final fantasy's had early medieval stuff like king arthur-ish settings, 5 looked medieval, 4 had the Moon so maybe not that)

then from 6, which was the industrial age, civilization advanced to the year 1997 and Cloud's party had to continue the save-the-world work Terra's party and everyone else kept on with

then after 7, 8 came along and everything was space-age like around the late year 2000's or something.

then just like movies like star wars and planet of the apes in which the old days were the futuristic ones and now civilization deteriorated and had to start all over again, we land in the medieval age once again in 9.

then in 10, everything became modern again... ) it's a cycle.

I prefer to think that they don't connect, outside of the common references (Cid, Bahamut, and so forth). Not in terms of being in the same universe, that is.

I'm sure that you could look at common themes and try to analyze things from that standpoint, but I don't think that's what you meant.

Wanting to see connections outside the obvious (recurring character names, Star Wars references, common themes) is just fanboyism making people want there to be more to the series than there really is.

You know, possibly, 2 might of meant to be a forerunner of 1? I mean, 1 talks about the airship Cid built, and in 2 you see Cid flying HIS airship that HE built...

So, possibly, originally somon thought 2 might come centuries ebfore 1, but then 3 came out and they scrapped the idea cos it was crap

This concept does not work. To begin, the name "Cid" was retroactively inserted into FFI; prior to the Dawn of Souls version, no named individual was associated with the airship. It was merely added in the DoS version to serve the purpose of continuity of tradition. As no "Cid" was originally included, such a connection could not have been intended.

Moreover, the "Cid" of FFI was a Lufenian, whose civilization does not at all correspond to the world view of FFII. Still further, his actions did not take place extremely far to the past, which would force one to overlook both the disappearance of all vestiges of the world of FFII, as well as drastic continental drift and reconfiguration. Finally, one would also have to overlook the fact that the Crystals, a critical world element of FFI, are not present in FFII.

Thus, FFI and FFII clearly share no direct connection.

Everything in Final Fantasy is a continuation from the previous game.

    For real dawg.

Final Fantasy 1 blends into 2 so easily, and it is totally linear, you just have to know what you're doing.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, I assume you are unable to comprehend the basic theory of Final Fantasy, and their connections. So, I won't even attempt to go into details.

I feel all FFs are connected

FF 1-6 have some things that reference each other like Mysidia, Crystals, etc. Plus, I feel the events of FF 1-8 all took place on earth and the events of FF 9-11 take place on other planets

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

Please read the linked thread Christmas posted. There's little or nothing to recommend such an idea, particularly given the inevitable contradictions that spring up every time the idea is proposed.

Mysidia was only included in FFII and FFIV, and those games share no other remarkable similarities. There are no Crystals (Elemental or otherwise) in FFII, moreover, and there are a vast number of inconsistencies, contradictions, and impossibilities that arise from attempting to connect the games.

I further assure you that no Final Fantasy (except for The Spirits Within) explicitly takes place on our Earth. In fact, the world of FFVII is called Gaia, and (if we can trust LotC) the world of FFV is called Planet R.
