after you get 400 points, switch immediately (about the end of chapter 2 if you got every point available so far), this occured to me after i got my most recent epcom in the calm lands and found that out of the two extra games i can get, i only gained one, and i had 900+ points, so switching at about 400 points should allow plenty of room to get 400+ points for the other company as well.
