It was overused to the point that it was annoying. Any smiley that can be overused in such a way as to become annoying should not be a smiley. We should go back to only having 20 or so smileys! Then it would all be happy days.

I've yet to do anything with smilies since becoming an admin.

It would be wise to do the occasional deletion of smilies -- and forum content -- every few months just to keep the fear of the peons alive.
