Flee-Gil and the Level one Ozma challenge??

I've just started the level one Ozma challenge and I figure since I can't fight battles for a while, I should be able to gain money by equipping Flee gill. However, when I run, it seems like I am the one dropping money, and not the enemies. How exactly does flee-gill work? How can I go about running from battles without losing my precious money?? (I've never ran from more than one or two battles before until now, so I didn't even know that I lost money from fleeing.)

Yeah, so how exactly does this work? What do I have to do to get Flee-gill to work? (Yes, it IS equipped.)

I never paid much attention to it but I thought that flee-gil always gave up money respective to your total amount or level in return for fleeing immediately. Maybe I had it wrong but I don't remember ever making a profit off running away.

Are you running from battle (pressing R1 and L1) or fleeing from battle (using the Flee ability)?

I am using the Flee ability. For some reason, I tried running using R1 and L1 and I ended up getting wiped out. I just sat there trying to run but I never ended up fleeing.

IIRC Flee-Gil only works if you flee using the R/L buttons.

There are better ways of making a buck in a Lv.1 game though, like selling Ethers and Phoenix Pinions at 1000 Gil a pop.

Is there any place where I can steal ethers and phoenix pinions as often as I like?

Right now I am in the Ice Cavern. I'm well aware that I probably cannot steal Ethers or Phoenix Pinions at this point in the game. I am just wondering if there is any point in time where I can steal these things freely, as often as I like.

You can get by on the ones you find without having to steal more, but if you must I'd suggest stealing Phoenix Pinions from Pythons around Dali, as you'll probably end up doing that later on anyway to power Thievery.

You should also play Hot & Cold whenever you can.
