    Default Tales Series Goes DS

    http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2005/2099.html

Namco is working on a new incarnation of its popular Tales series for Nintendo's DS handheld system. While details are still scarce, Mutsumi Inomata (who has already worked on Tales of Destiny, Eternia, Destiny 2, and Rebirth) has been confirmed to act as the game's character designer.
The new Tales title for DS will be available in Japan sometime in spring 2006. It is unknown if this game is related to the previous Tales of Doom Sign trademark request.

Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

They've registered four patents, so it doesn't come as a surprise that they'll start unveiling one by one, and honestly, releasing a portable game first is a predictable decision.

Anyway, as long as we get games with a reasonable quality, whether they are portable or not, I won't complain.

I really hope they release it over in the US. :) I'd love to play it! Even if it is a remake of Tales of Phatasia, I've heard many good things about that game from a friend of mine at work.

Namco confirmed that the DS title will be Tales of the Tempest

    http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q4-2005/121205a.html

Giving further confirmation of news that's been hinted at for the past few months, Namco has given the world its first glimpse at its first Tales game for the Nintendo DS via a teaser site. Now the game has an official name: Tales of the Tempest. According to Japanese site Quiter, this title was trademarked in Japan along with Tales of Howling, Tales of Doom Sign, and Tales of Two Faiths in October.

Tales of the Tempest stars 15-year-old protagonist Caius Qualls. The remote village Caius lives in with his Foster Father and two other people is attacked one day by Spot, an evil creature seeking a crystal. Following this, Caius sets off on an adventure to find his biological parents.

Tales of the Tempest's North American release date is currently unknown, and considering the series' track record, it's uncertain if it will make the trek at all. Japanese RPGamers will be able to pick up the game when it's released in Japan in 2006.
