Here is most of the information about the new game by Square Enix:

    STORY LINE

Although Dirge of Cerberus was announce about a year ago Square Enix has still said very little about the storyline behind Dirge of Cerberus. However, here is what we know so far.
A sudden appearance of a mysterious group called the Deep Ground Soldiers as they attacks Kalm plunges the town in chaos. The Deep Ground Soldiers are a section of SOLDIER, created by the ShinRa Company on the President ShinRa's orders underneath Midgar. When Meteor struck Midgar at the end of Final Fantasy VII they became trapped but they have now escaped their underground lair. Vincent Valentine is somehow connected to the Deep Ground Soldiers as they seem to have been searching for him for some time.
Reeve Tuesti former Head of Urban Development at ShinRa is now the leader of the World Restoration Organization who are a large organization who basically carry out more than AVALANCE could ever have hoped. Their job is to restore the world and prevent anyone from damaging it further. Barret and Tifa are thought to be part World Restoration Organization and are probably leading some of the missions.
Along side the main story line is is clear that Vincent's painful past will be uncovered including his tragic love with Lucrecia. We may also find out what happened to Vincent during Hojo's experimentation on him.

    HISTORY OF VINCENT

May contain spoilers, read it at your own risk.
Vincent Valentine was a Turk and was selected to supervise the science project led by his farther, Grimoire Valentine. He fell in love a scientist who was assisting Grimoire in the project, called Lucrecia Crescent. When Grimoire died Lucrecia left Vincent, because she felt guilty about his fathers death. Vincent later catches up with Lucrecia when observing the Jenova Project based in Nibelheim led by Professor Gast. Here Vincent proposed to Lucrecia but she turned him down and started a relationship with Hojo who was also working on the Jenova Project.
Lucrecia fell pregnant for the baby to become the next experiment, the effects of Jenova Cells on an unborn child. Vincent objected to using living subjects being experimented on, especially Lucrecia but she continued regardless. The experiment made her become increasingly ill and Vincent confronted Hojo about it. Hojo ended the conflict by shooting Vincent in the stomach. Hojo then shut him in a Lifestream Pod in the Mount Nibel Mako Reactor where Lucrecia infected Vincent with contaminated Mako, G Substance, and became Chaos.
Vincent, being influenced by Chaos, filled with rage and broke free of his pod, Lucrecia used some meteria that could control Chaos and put Vincent into a deep sleep. When he woke up on the operating table in the basement of Shin-Ra Mansion but Hojo and Lucrecia had already gone. Vincent was distraught with rage about the modifications to his body and shut himself in the coffin. Hojo locks the coffin and the room, places the key in the safe and hides the combination and sets out the clues to find it again.

He is actually housing the computer-simulated personality of Hojo, and becomes possessed by this. This emulated version of Hojo, through Weiß's body, had the DGS adbuct those not under the effects of Geostigma to serve as incubators of enough pure Mako to enable Weiß to asborb Omega. However, Weiß managed to fight back control over his body and committed sucide, taking Hojo with him. His name means, white in German.

Three years after the end of Final Fantasy VII they have found a way out of their underground tomb and are free to do what they feel.
The startup sequence from the demo of Dirge of Cerberus at Square Enix Party 2005 shows the Deep Ground Soldiers attacking what is Kalm in the middle of the Kalm Revival Festival causing panic and mayhem in the city. Why they are attacking is still not clear but it seems that they are looking for Vincent. Why the Deep Ground Soldiers are after Vincent is not clear but there are a number of theories floating around. The Deep Ground Soldiers have a lot of technology available to them, much of which they use to find what they need or to get it. They have very powerful weapons, vehicles including helicopter like machines and many other things. There have also been a number of beasts and strange creates they have control over.
