I've noticed that it seems that most 5-11 year olds love Pokemon, 12-15 year olds hate it and diss it whenever it comes up in everyday conversation, and 16+ year olds like it and like talking about it.
As for me, I believe I still have my old Red version gathering dust in my GBA case. For favorite Pokemon, I'll simply do it for each set of games.
