It's a carry-over from old English mannerisms. In the land of our wretched great great great great great great forefathers, it was considered impolite for a woman to dress in anything lighter than 4 layers.Originally Posted by Miriel

In the here and now, visible underwear is considered the sign of an ignorant and slovenly person. Many teenage boys ignore this opinion, wearing baggy pants that fall beneath the rim of their briefs or boxers . . . or even lower. I found myself suffering whiplash as I averted my eyes from a girl wearing a thong when she leaned over to get something from her backpack. I wasn't aware then quite why I was so upset by it. I'm the type who likes to study up on social mannerisms and the like, so it's fairly easy for me to figure out the source of pretty much anyone's problems. I am such a conceited and incessant know-it-all. I love being a genius.![]()
