Default Is there a point in fighting the Captains in Phin?

I just defeated a Captain, and I won a Flame Bow, hehe.
However, I'd like to know if there are any other treasures that make the Captains worth fighting?
Do they randomly drop Flame equipment, or what?

They're a good way to get your stats up without going to Mysidia.

Yeah, I found out that too, they rose a lot after this single battle, yay!
However, do they drop other equipment besides that Flame Bow?

Fighting them is a good way to make money, level up, and get stronger armor. I believe they drop Gold Armor and a magic spell, too.

It's pretty interesting that this level up stuff works pretty similar in this game, despite the different system:
harder enemies deal more damage to your party and require the use of powerful spells in order to fall, which raises HP, Vitality, MP, Intelligence and Soul, just because you're forced to rely on it for so long.

Toad, F.Bow, Gold Armor, and some other tome. I fight there until they become to easy. What I don't understand is why I got guy level 12 axe with them but a dragon doesn't give my guys any levels! (DOS version)
    "Swordchucks Yo." - Fighter

"Every time I cast Hadoken it siphons a little bit of love out of the world to create a massive destructive explosions. They say the divorce rate goes up with each cast." - BM

How many swords could sword chucks chuck if sword chucks could chuck swords? Same goes with Nuns! :rolleyes2

    "I cast Ice-9!" -RM

"I can steal stuff that isn't even there" -Thief (Yet he can't steal in the game)

Level gaining seems to rely a lot on the types of enemies you're fightning.
If you fight a "high rank enemy" (whatever that is, I don't know; the hard ones, I guess)
your weapons and stuff level up faster.

I got my Ice spell to gain X-04 points per use at some place,
ergo advanced to the next level after being used 25 times.

I believe they drop Poison Axes, which are VERY nice. It was too bad in my previous save file I never got Sun Swords from the emperors castle thingy, but I was glad that Captains were on the overworld.
Front-wards, back-wards, anyway you see! Such a strange spell to swish-swish-aree! Tceles Nottub B. Swish-swish-aroo!

I've only beaten FFI, but I'm close to beating FFIII for FAMICOM!

    YAY FOR CHOCOBOS!

    DON'T FORGET MOOGLES! :mog:

Ah, no. You're thinking Royal Guards, which don't show up until the Cyclone.
