The Megami Series (Plus a little front mission and bushido)

Nifty subject titly huh. Ok had some questions about the megami series which has interested me for a while but I haven't got into it. I found persona 2 for 30 bucks. Now is the megami series like Final Fantasy in that each game is it's own entity or is persona 2 a true sequel to the first persona, and I should try to find that first before buying persona 2 and how does it relate to the shin megami series. Very confusing series but I'm starved for a new rpg experience, they also had front mission 3, and bushido blade wondering what your thoughts are on those too, thanx.

Persona 2 takes place a few years after Persona, but considering all the characters are different, I doubt its plot is too dependent on that of the original. The Shin Megami Tensei games seem to be isolated stories, as well.
