I've tried many more times than that, and each has left me more and more bitter.
As have I. Once in a replay, I hit it on the first try.
Then on another, I have yet to accomplish it, about 50hrs total time.
I did it in less than 10, I believe. I can't quite remember how long it took me, but it wasn't as bad as it seems to be for most people.
It's pretty easy, the first time it was hard as hell, but now it's incredibly simple, I've done it for all my friends.

On my first few playthroughs I had atleast 150+ tries and never accomplished it. On my most recent play through, I got it in my 4th try.
The whole you are evil thing just got old.
I know it's wicked screwy. It really depends on how the balloons line up and a whole hellava lotta luck (sorry Rikku can't help you here)

There's only about 5 or 6 different patterns the balloons can arrange themselves in. It does take a bit of luck to get the right arrangement, but once you get the one that more or less lays the balloons out in a straight line for you, it's easy as pie. I remember getting 0.0.0 on the third or fourth try.
It's the lightning dodging I hate.
I still cant do lightening dodger, but a tip for choco catch, DO NOT BE AFRAID TO GO SIDEWAYS. It may take longer, but you may get another balloon, and it will be like nothing ever happened. 14 balloons and its pretty much over.

Are you kidding?! I got Venus crest in about 40 minutes with a peaceful armguard. 211 dodges without being hit on my first go. So much easier than the stupid chocobo race! o_O
