I need some advice. My 12 year old girl wants to play the guitar. What do I get for a noobie player? Regular or electric? This is a subject I have no knowledge of. Thanks in advance!

Ummm...I would start them off with a Starter Electric, If they want to do electric.Originally Posted by fantasyjunkie

Also B.C. Rich guitar's totally rule!

I recommend acoustic, of course, but that's because I think acoustics are better for any age or any level.
There's no need to spend a lot of money buying a Martin or a Taylor or anything like that. Just buy something pretty cheap that she can learn the chords on. A capo is also very necessary for a beginner.
Hmm... Like what Venom said. I have an electric and an amp but it was an OK amount of money..
Squirer Bullet Fender (The guitar brand): $150
Amplifier: $60
But if you want to keep less noise in the house and not waste a lot of money give her an acoustic...
I ltought myself with an acoustic and I tell everyone who asks to start with one. They're easy, fairly portable, and not as loud. Plus, theyre probably cheaper, as you dont have to buy an amp, cord, etc. So go with that. You can pick up an acoustic starter kit for around $100. Usually comes with extra stings a strap gig bag, tuner, etc

It all depends on what your kid wants. Does she want to play the electric or an acoustic? Alot of people say that there are advantages to starting out with an acoustic, but none of them hold if they don't want to play an acoustic. If your daughter likes rock music, give her an electric. If she's into country, an acoustic might be better suited.
Personally I think an electric is far more well rounded. It should be totally up to her, though. If she doesn't want an acoustic, she probably wont progress with one.
heh heh heh I have a B.C Rich Warlock with tribal designsOriginally Posted by Venom
But I agree with the others, starting with an acoustic is the easiest thing to do, preferably a classical one 'cause the nylon strings are easier on the fingers. They are relatively cheap too, over here I got one for about $100 NZ, which is nothing compared to other currency.
Perhaps she needs lessons as well. Guitar don't just happen overnight.
I look sexy with a guitar

I started with an acoustic/electric. B) This might be a good way to go, because she can learn general guitar easily, and then when she gets to know a bit more, she can mess around with the electric portion without having to buy a new guitar.
Edit: I don't like B.C Riches. Yeah, they look pretty but the quality is generally shoddy.
Originality is good, kids.
I go to some place here in connecticut. It's in Fairfield. Anyone who lives in CT can go here. It's in Fairfield, 813 Kings Hallway...
It's possible to teach yourself guitar, thats what alot of Guitar players who are awesome do.Originally Posted by Sora!

Yeah I suppose
It's probably more difficult for a 12-year-old to teach herself. I taught myself, but I also had taken 6 years of piano and 5 1/2 years of band. It was easier for me to pick up on the musical concepts.Originally Posted by Venom
