The "Gilgame" monster....

I just finished playing FFV for the first time earlier this afternoon.....what an amazing game! Anyway, do any of you remember the creature named "Gilgame?" It was in a cave located on the 2nd world, I have a hard time remembering it's exact location. Well, my first few attempts at killing it were worthless, and he dispatched of me easily. I figured, "I'll just level up and come back for him later." Well, then (SPOILER)X-Death destroyed the damn crystals, and merged the two worlds together.After that point, I couldn't find the cave that Gilgame was in, so I'm assuming you (SPOILER)have to beat him in the 2nd world or not at all. My question is, do you get anything of value for defeating him?

you fight him randomely possibley several times in his cave. you get something like 60,000gil or more if you reach the end, plus another 5000gil for everyone you defeat
