Why is there even a pause option in this game...

When you pause the time still runs and I cant find a single instance where it would be useful... I thought it would at least stop the clock but i left my game paused for a few hours and now i have a really bad time >.<
it sucks doesn't it...
wat was really annoying 4 me was that my bro was wanting 2 play MY (yes MY) ps2 and play ff10 (also mine) so he monitored how long i went on the ps2 i left it over night on pause coz i couldn't find a save point and the last time i saved it said 190:00 it sucks
