Goodbye, Lenin!
I saw this (minus the subtitles) a couple of weeks ago in my German lesson, and rather enjoyed watching it, even if I wasn't able to understand all of it, I managed to get the gist. My parents bought me it for Christmas, so I was able to watch it with subtitles and I enjoyed it more.
It's not that old (2003). It's set towards the end of East Germany's existance around a family with a mother who is a supporter of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany. She suffers a heart attack and falls into a coma for eight months. During these eight months the Berlin Wall is brought down. When she awakens, her son and daughter are told that any shock may cause another attack, which she wouldn't survive. Believing that learning of the events of the past eight months would be too much for her, she returns home, bedridden, and her family attempt to keep the illusion that nothing has changed.
I thought it was rather touching in places, rather funny too, and well worth watching. Has anyone else seen it?
