Well, I prefer certain aspects of both games, but I definitely think FFXI is the better game.

Both are certainetly different games, targeted at different people. The reason why i feel more people say WoW is better is because its more casual and you can log in whenever you feel like and do something. I however find it boring as i seen many people say alot of the things are too damn easy to do, and FFXI doesnt reward laziness at all. FFXI is much more hardcore and more deep than WoW IMO, and requires much more teamwork and strategy to get the things done, and hence much more reward factor. Its also not centered on PvP and is much more on interaction between others and you.

I've not played WoW but have a great number of friends who do or did. Most of them if they had previously been FFXI fans said they LOVED WoW... then about 3 months later they had 1 or 2 jobs at 60 and came back to FFXI saying that WoW was too easy.

Apparently WoW definately caters to the casual player like lionx said. It's more user-friendly in that way. FFXI is a hard game to just start up and get going especially without friends. But it seems like there is more long lasting content in FFXI to make it worth coming back to repeatedly.

I played WoW for a fair few months, I thought it was pretty good. But I still love FFXI more.

WoW get's boring because it's just too easy to do things. Leveling wise, party wise, money wise, etc...

FFXI I like more... why? I have my reasons. xD

    WoW (my current Experience).

    pros:
the music is nice and enjoyable, calm if you must say.
The Scenery is wonderful and you feel like you are writing your own story.
You face consequences for your actions.
its fun exploring the world abd learning the Lore of WoW.
The Talent trees allow vary varied builds.
showing off to newbies is fun
oh and the travel... its awe inspiring.
and :O you can swim in the waaaateeeerrrrrrr

    cons:
the first and foremost worst one.... Humans, heavy % of the community is horrible, they start at the most ugliest of places.
the armour, ugh! most of it fuuuuuugllllly.
    Imbalances in classes.
... hmmm, I like pointless lvl grinding,..... so thats not a con.

i will post the pros and cons of my FFXI experience.

ps: Ive voiced my experience, dont flame me and say more cons, cause I just havent found them yet....

I prefer WoW to FFXI. I just like the world, races and community of the game a lot more than FFXI's.

It kind of pisses me off that you have to be a certain job/subjob/race combo in FFXI or idiotic players would think you're gimped and rarely party with you. Of course, these people aren't really worth playing with anyway but it can be quite frustrating.

WoW's a lot easier for me to just login and play. Levelling doesn't feel like as much of a chore and quests can be both fun and rewarding.

That's not to say that FFXI doesn't have it's plus points, but I still prefer WoW. I play both anyway

I just got Tavanian Safehold access..the music and sight its much more beautiful than anything else i seen in FFXI...the original FFXI was kinda lackluster(releasted in 2002 anyway..) but COP is definetly the best, and the lore is more fun to learn there too.

Haha... no music embodies calm more than the music in Lufaise Meadows... it's gorgeous and puts you in a different mood altogether. Grats on Safehold access and good luck with the Minotaur Lionx ^^

Race isn't much of an issue if you have the right equipment to correct your shortcomings. Good equipment can easily bring you up to par with the other races.

The reason people go for the certain cookie-cutter job combinations is because some are simply more effective than others. Compared to WHM/BLM or WHM/SMN, WHM/RDM is gimped, WHM/WAR even more so. In a party you're expected to perform to the best of your ability for the benefit of everyone in your party. Certain things are unacceptable. If you want to be different and potentially less effective, save your unorthodox job combinations for soloing. Believing that doesn't make anyone an idiot.

That aside, I've never been able to stand WoW for more than a few minutes. I have never played the game, but I certainly have no desire to. I've watched my friend play for maybe twenty minutes and I felt no attraction to the game whatsoever. Everyone, even my friends who play WoW, admits that it is an easy MMORPG and very casual.

As far as I'm concerned, the fact that WoW is casual and FFXI isn't makes comparing the game like comparing--please forgive the cliche--apples to oranges. All other differences aside from maybe community (and I hear the WoW community is horrible from many people, but that could just be certain servers) sprout from that single difference.

The only thing that WoW's got over FFXI is a lack of economical problems based on gilsellers like we have in FFXI. It's beginning to become more of a pain recently, but I'm confident that Square Enix has some plans up their sleeves as to how they're going to correct the problem.
