It's a toss up between Shadow of the Colossus and God of War for me. I'm leaning more towards God of War since it was difficult in comparison to Shadow of the Colossus when just the normal gameplay is taken into consideration, and I like challenges as long as they don't make me want to shatter the discs into multiple pieces...which it still had its moments where I got pretty pissed, but maybe that's a good thing. I find most newer games too easy to beat and unlock stuff.

Oh, Indigo Prophecy was also pretty good.

    I can't decide between

    Shadow the Hedgehog
King of Fighter 2002/2003 (came out on consoles in 2005 so it counts)
    Resident Evil 4
    Dragon Quest VIII

Shadow of the Colossus for a slew of reasons. The most important being that it got me back into gaming. I dropped from a serious gamer, to a casual gamer, to a gamer-not for a long time. I finally picked it up, and OMG what a masterpiece. Everything in that game is a work of art, from the way the grass moves, to how a crow sounds as you gallop past, or how you handle your horse. It was unique, and a step in the right direction for changing the way video games are supposed to be.

Honorable mention goes to my second choice, Indigo Prophecy. It was what I've always wanted: a great big interactive movie. It was thrilling beyond all belief to have so much control, to feeling so much a part of the story. The only reason this didn't get my pick is the end portion. Sure, there's multiple endings... all of which are relatively the same. If they would have worked a little more on that last hour of the game, I would also label it a masterpiece.
