Shadow of the Colossus for a slew of reasons. The most important being that it got me back into gaming. I dropped from a serious gamer, to a casual gamer, to a gamer-not for a long time. I finally picked it up, and OMG what a masterpiece. Everything in that game is a work of art, from the way the grass moves, to how a crow sounds as you gallop past, or how you handle your horse. It was unique, and a step in the right direction for changing the way video games are supposed to be.

Honorable mention goes to my second choice, Indigo Prophecy. It was what I've always wanted: a great big interactive movie. It was thrilling beyond all belief to have so much control, to feeling so much a part of the story. The only reason this didn't get my pick is the end portion. Sure, there's multiple endings... all of which are relatively the same. If they would have worked a little more on that last hour of the game, I would also label it a masterpiece.
