Definitely Sinéad O'Connor's reggae/ roots album from this summer, stunning Island grooves.

2005 wasn't nearly as good as 2004. Although when I think about it, 2004 was one of the best musical years ever.

These are the ones that come to mind right now:

    Adversus - Einer Nacht Gewesenes
    Dark Tranquillity - Character
    Dornenreich - Hexenwind
    Eisblut - Schlachtwerk
    Eisregen - Hexenhaus
    Feindflug - Volk und Armee
    Janus - Nachtmahr
    Lacrimosa - Lichtgestalt
    Meshuggah - Catch 33
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked
Oathean - As A Solitary Tree Against The Sky
    Opeth - Ghost Reveries
    Sigh - Gallows Gallery
Subway to Sally - Nord Nord Ost
    Totenmond - TonbergUrtod

My favourite one is definately Janus, followed by Lacrimosa, Dornenreich and Subway to Sally.

Frances the Mute was okay, but Mars Volta's other album was better. Um...yeah, this was a bad year for music.

Mars Volta - Frances the Mute (Best record this year?)
    Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain
    Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Pelican - The Fire in our Throats will Beckon the Thaw
Gospel - The Moon is a Dead World (Best record this year?)
    Doomriders - Black Thunder
    Boris - Pink
    Dead Meadow - Feathers
Red Sparrows - At the Soundless Dawn (Record of the year?)
    Jesu - Jesu

*Boris - Soundtrack to the film Mabuta No Ura

I'm sure there are plenty of others that were really good that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Edit: Albums with a * in front means that they were tacked on after my original post.

That was about the only '05 album I got too. My sisters got a few albums from this year but I never got around to stealing off with their CDs to listen to them........yet.
