It really depends what party you want to use. Ultimately, I think it’s best to have two heavy hitting characters, one magic user, and one other character. For the magic user, Take either Terra, Celes, Strago or Relm. Personally, I always take Terra, due to how utterly excellent Morph can be, but then again all of these characters are exceptional at using magic. For the heavy hitters, I recommend Sabin, Cyan, Edgar or (if you don’t mind the whole AI thing) Umaro. Sabin’s Blitz attacks are fantastic (be sure to level up his MAGIC though, not his vigour. Blitz works on magic), Cyan’s SwordTechs are something you cannot do without, Edgar’s Chainsaw pwnz, and Umaro…well, have you seen the Incredible Hulk? Just choose whoever you want for the other character. GoGo (well, you’re not going to get him until later on) can use anyone’s special attack techniques which make him a very versatile character, if you equip Mog with the Dragoon boots and Dragoon horn he can cause utter chaos with his spear, Locke’s steal is very useful and he can also equip the best weapons in the game (Atma Weapon and the Illumina), Setzer is….well… not really useful but fun with his slots, Gau can cause havoc earlier on in the game with his rages and finally Shadow…kind of falls in the same category as Setzer. I suggest that by the end of the game, you should have 3 separate parties of 4 characters that follow this basic formula. If you make an effort to level up each of these parties separately (ie, taking different parties on various side quests) you’ll find the final dungeon much easier.
Now, there is no point in going into equipment; just equip the best items you have at that point in the game. There are, however, a few items to look out for. Be sure to get the Atma Weapon while you are in the cave that leads to the Esper world in the World of Balance. It will ultimately be the best weapon in the game, SO MAKE SURE YOU GET IT. It in a cavern somewhere; just watch out for a switch on the ground that opens up the entrance to a small cave. Apart from that…yeah, just use whatever. There are some great items later on in the game that I would suggest getting, so search around for info on how to get the following:
Ragnarok
Illumina (connected to the ragnarok)
Paladin Shield (connected to the Cursed Shield)
Offering
Economizer
Gem Box
Genji Glove
Finally, Espers. It’s hard to really discuss this without giving away too much of the plot, but I guess I don’t have to really. It’s pretty easy though; give Espers that increase Magic to magic-oriented character, and Espers that increase Vigour to physical-oriented characters (NOTE: NOT sabin. Boost his magic instead). At the same time, make sure all characters gain a few levels with HP and MP boosting Espers equipped as well (this is especially important for the charcter who is to use Atma Weapon). I’ll give a brief run down on what stats need to be boosted with each character:
Terra: Magic, MP
Celes: Magic, MP
Relm: Magic, MP
Strago: Magic, MP
Cyan: Vigour, HP
Sabin: Magic, HP (NOT Vigour)
Edgar: Vigour, HP
Umaro: N/A (can’t equip Espers)
Locke: Vigour, HP, speed ( that last one isn’t really needed…)
Shadow: Doesn’t really matter,.
Setzer: Doesn’t really matter.
Mog: Magic seems to be the way to go, but it doesn’t really matter.
Gau: Magic
GoGo: N/A ( can’t equip Espers)
Um…yeah. Hope that helps.
EDIT:Um...actually in order to advance the story, you HAVE to talk to that woman.Originally Posted by Levian
